FC Bootle triumph against spirited Aintree Villa

Goals from Stewart Jackson, Liam Farrall, Shaun Harris and Jake Preston secured a 4-1 win for FC Bootle against local-rivals Aintree Villa, cancelling out a Joel Jackson screamer.

FC Bootle came flying out the blocks in the opening half and the breakthrough came for the hosts inside five minutes. Stewart Jackson was played through for a one-on-one with Ben Jones and he calmly slipped it past him. 

Jackson was on target again seconds later, netting from ball across the face but the fourth officials judged a player in the build up to be in an offside position. 

Aintree Villa were a real threat from corners and an abundance of corners followed throughout the game for Villa. Their first threat from a corner kick came after a Ethan Highton effort was thwarted by a FC Bootle man. From the resulting corner, Ben Hamlett’s chance was stopped on the line before Alex McNabb follow up was diverted wide.

FC Bootle doubled their lead when Liam Farrall calmy netted into the corner out of Ben Jones’ reach.

Two almost became three in a matter of moments for the hosts. Karl Bergavist picked the pockets of the Aintree Villa defence and drove at the backline, with his flying shot drifting wide. 

It was three for FC Bootle eventually as Dean Nunn had two bites of the cherry at goal but both blocked, the second blocked fell to Shaun Harris, who blazing effort floats past Jones.

The second half brought spells of profound dominance for Aintree Villa, showing real threat to the FC Bootle goal. The first sight of goal was Chris Hughes lobbed effort almost finding it’s way into the corner, but it trickled wide, with a further two in quick succession from Tom Rayll and Joe Jackson stinging the palms of Paul Willis. 

The goal finally came for the visitors as Joel Jackson touch down from a long ball set him up for a volley from afar, with a crisp volley looping over Willis. 

Paul Willis was forced into a fine stop minutes after the first and denying them a second. James Mundy’s long-ranged effort was tipped onto the under side of the bar by Willis and cleared. 

The hosts and the leaders took a foothold and several chances were calved out. Brad Shearwood effort was threatening but Ben Jones was equal to it, with the resulting corner being nodded over by Mark Madden. 

FC Bootle got the fourth and rounded off the scoring. Mark Madden shot was saved by Ben Jones and looped in the air, with Jake Preston smashing home the rebound.
