REMY hit three to down Longridge
A Johnny Foy double and an Adam Hammill screamer cancelled out an early Longridge opener to see Litherland REMYCA grab another vital win in their race for survival.
REMYCA had a chance to take an early lead in the opening seconds. Captain Ashton Clements sent Ryan Cox on his way, who forced Daniel Roccia into a good early stop.
The away side took the lead with seven minutes on the clock. A testing corner ball by William Riding was unluckily diverted into the back of the net by ‘REMY's’ Oscar Billington.
REMYCA had a huge chance to draw level. Paul Speed crunching challenge saw him collect the ball back in the middle of the park, he sent through Adam Hammill who laid off Oscar Billington, looking to amend his earlier own goal, but he sliced his shot just wide of the post. Poor defending by Longridge was pounced upon by Johnny Foy, who slipped under an outrushed Daniel Roccia to bring ‘REMY’ back level.
On the stroke of half time, REMYCA hit the front. Oscar Billington played through in Foy again, who placed under the keepers legs to grab his and the home sides second.
HT: Litherland REMYCA 2-1 Longridge Town
Two minutes into the second half, REMYCA extended their cushion to two goals as Adam Hammill’s tricky feet fooled the Longridge backline and he curled in an outrageous effort into the top right.
Daniel Wilkinson was left open in the box for Longridge and a strong header from the 'Ridge' man was tipped over the bar by Ryan Jones.
Both sides had half chances in the closing moments of the game, with Longridge desperately looking to restore parity and 'REMY' to extend their advantage. Ryan Jones was in top form to deny some of Longridge’s audacious efforts and for ‘REMY’ their final chance was Adam Hammill using his skill once more to dance last four Longridge players but his strike just missed the target.
