Late drama as Irlam edge out REMYCA
In a end-to-end encounter, it was Irlam who secured the 3 points from a revitalised Litherland REMYCA as Ethan Cartwright, Jordan Southworth and Millen Brown scoring for the Manchester side.
A fast start by ‘REMY’ saw them make an early breakthrough. Adam Hammill broke down the left and slipped in Karl Clair, whose initial cross was blocked but he drilled home the rebound from close range.
Irlam make an instant response, capitalising on a REMYCA mistake. A great cross was met by a flick on, which was took down well by Ethan Cartwright. He had time to assess where he was going to place his efforts and he fired across goal into the bottom left corner out of Ryan Jones’ reach.
From the Irlam leveller, REMYCA piled on the pressure with some inswinging, dangerous balls from Adam Hammill with no end product. Eventually, a Hammill cross turned to a goal as ‘REMY’ regained the lead. Jack Riley nodded the ball across the face for Paul Foy, who’s in exuberant form, to tap home from close range.
Irlam placed REMYCA under heavy pressure towards the conclusion of the first half, including a fierce volley by Jordan Southworth bringing Ryan Jones into action with a terrific stop.

The first real chance of the second half fell for REMYCA's Karl Chair, who sliced a shot marginally wide wide of the post.
Irlam score a second and brought the game level for a second time. Jacob Holt sent a long ball up to Jordan Southworth in a chase. Irlam’s number nine managed to nod on his header in front of him to get a shot off and then delightfully smashed his shot high into the roof of the net.
Shortly after, the away side took the lead for the first time. Jordan Icely’s shot was initially saved. Millen Brown picked it up from Ryan Jones’ parry, his first shot was blocked but it rebounded back to Brown, who's authorative strike gave Ryan Jones no chance.
A series of chances fell kindly for REMYCA in which they could have grabbed a goal. Firstly, Paul Speed had an open net to aim at, however a great recovery from Jacob Holt denied the 'REMY' midfielder practically on the goal line, then a header by a ‘REMY’ man was denied by a great, stretching save by Lee White.
The game ended with high drama. Firstly, a late challenge by an Irlam man on Paul Speed resulted in a free-kick and a big scuffle between the two sets of players. From the resulting freekick, a penalty was awarded to REMYCA after a kick in the box. James Hammill stood up to take it, but Lee White stood tall and pushed it away in what was the last kick off the game.
