Silkmen moves six clear at the summi following Danns and Lee strikes agsinst a spirited 'REMY'

Two early Macclesfield goals proved to be the difference as they extended their lead at the top of the table to 6 points after beating Litherland REMYCA 2-1 after a hard-fought performance from the REMY.

The game never lit up until after the twenty minute mark, with neither side getting a foothold except for a limited amount of crosses. When the game hit a good patch of quality, the 'REMY' were the beter side - showing signs that they were a side that shouldn't be rooted to the bottom of the table. Former Football League and Liverpool winger Adam Hammill almost opened the scoring with an audacious long-ranged effort however, a brilliant save by Sam Ashton in the 'Silkmen' net kept the 'REMY' 7 at bay.

The table-toppers began to show why they were there and took control from then for a period. Kielan Adams had the first 'Macc' shot on goal, doing well to hold off a challenge from a REMYCA defender and to get the shot off however, it was smashed wide. The visitors didn't have to wait much longer and broke the deadlock through another former league player, Neil Danns. A free-kick by the Macclesfield skipper slipped through the grasp of Ryan Jones.

That lead soon became two and a monumental one for the scorer, Brandon Lee, who netted his first for the 'Silkem'. Lee weaved his way through the 'REMY' defence and his low drive beat Ryan Jones at his near post met by a roar from the boisterous Macclesfield crowd.

A huge talking point followed, as Macclesfied could have felt relieved they didnt revieve a red card, as a crunching tackle on Adam Hammil caused uproar from the 'REMY' contingency. He was booked and play continued, with 'REMY' looking back on top. Josh Brizell's effort was splendidly denied by some last-ditch defending before they halved the deficit. Hammill whipped in another threatening free-kick, which was met by the out-stretched leg of an advancing Daniel Murphy - who calmly placed past Ashton.

The two best 'REMY' chances in the second period came from both Hammill's, James and Adam, and both coming from free-kicks. James' effort from afar tickled the outside of the post and Adam's was a bit closer but further away from the target.

Ryan Jones, after a disastrous 45 minutes, had a much improved second period and denied Macclesfield from increasing their goal count. Edy Maieco was denied by a splendid double save by Jones before further efforts from substitutes Aaron Dwyer and Mark Duffy were curbed.

REMYCA could have felt unlucky not to clinch a point after some efforts required last-ditch blocking by the 'Silkmem' however, despite defeat, a spirited performance looks to put them in the right direction as they look to cling ono their NWCFL Premier Division status.
