Southport emphatically dispatch Farsley
A double for both Jack Bainbridge and Jordan Archer saw the Port dominate a poor Farsley Celtic and end 2021 6th in the National League North.
Farsley started lively and had a teasing shot inside the first minute, but Southport keeper Cameron Mason was down low to save without any trouble.
The 'Sandgrounders' calved out some great opportunity's after Farsley's flurry. Niall Watson was put through by Jordan Archer and after rounding the Farsley Celtic keeper Kyle Trenerry, he could only find the side netting, with part of the ground. Southport looked well in their stride now ans so did Walton. He and Archer linked up well again together, Watson fizzed a ball across the six-yard area but before a touch of a Southport player would have meant a shot on target, some heroic Farsley Celtic defence kept the scoreline level.
Farsley went close again as Lewis Turner was played through on goal but after turning pack for a shooting opportunity, he could only sky it high and into the Jack Carr Stand.
Southport were back on top then as Isaac Buckey-Ricketts pinched the pockets of the Farsley Celtic defence and drove forward, with his final effort being comfortably saved by Kyle Trenery. They didn't have to wait much longer as The Port take the lead just on a quarter of an hour. A great corner from the left was swung in and a great header by Jack Bainbridge flew into the net, leaving Trenerry with no chance.
The Port double their lead from another corner. This time, a dangerous corner from Charlie Munro was pounced upon by Jordan Archer, who powered his header out of Kyle Trenerry's reach.
Jack Bainbridge doubled his account for the day and grabbed Southport's third. Niall Watson whipped a teasing ball across the face, there were three players unmarked in the box and waiting to greet it. It avaded Jordan Archer however, Bainbridge was there to tap home.
And pretty much from kick-off, the Port scored another. This time Archer was there to slot home past Kyle Trenerry.
HT: Southport 4-0 Farsley Celtic
It was a very quiet start to the a second half, both sides not really coming out the blocks. A couple of half chances, especially for Southport with some great stoppages from the Farsley Celtic defence denied it reaching Trenerry.
Farsley had a golden chance to regain parity. A long free-kick swung in fell deep into the Southport penalty area which fell to a grateful Adam Clayton however, he couldn't keep his header lower than the crossbar.
Southport came close to grabbing a fifth, Isaac Bukley-Ricketts played a dangerous ball across and all the incisive move required was a touch from the 'Yellows' players in the area, which never game.
Southport rode out their emphatic victory to move up to 6th in the National League North.
