Resilient Harrogate fight back at Tranmere
James Muldoon and Alexander Pattison cancelled out an early Nicky Maynard goal to send Harrogate through to the Round of 16 and a home tie with Carlisle United.
Tranmere made an early breakthrough, a teasing ball across the face was pounced upon by Nicky Maynard who scored his fourth goal of the season, all coming in this competition.
Tranmere began an great amount of possession and pressure on the Harrogate goal following their lead. A great strike by Callum McManamam tested the keeper, but ultimately fizzled wide of the post before his shot rattled the inside of the post following a teasing long-throw into the area.
Towards the half hour mark, the away side started to pile on pressure, lots of dangerous balls but the Tranmere backline comfortably cleared the danger however, there were no real shots down the throat of Joe Murphy.

Harrogate started the second half the better side and it showed with all their pressure as they scored a deserved equalised on the balance of play. Substitute James Muldoon raced through, breathing down the neck of Joe Murphy, and his calm finish past the Rovers' shot-stopper brought the visitors from Yorkshire on terms.
Poor closing down by Rovers presented Harrogate with another opportunity, Lewis Page hit a fierce shot just past the post.
Harrogate took the lead fifteen minutes from time. Luke Armstrong attempt to round Joe Murphy was unsuccessful, so his only option was to lay it off to Alexander Pattison, free in space. This presented the Harrogate 16 with an easy finish and he duly converted, giving the visitors the lead and turning round the deficit they were in at the break.
Tranmere needed to respond instantly and this was almost found. A great cross from a Tranmere freekick was half-cleared only into the path of Calum McDonald, who sent a blazing volley over the crossbar.
The away side so nearly sealed victory right at the death, a dangerous corner swung in was flicked on by Luke Armstrong and cannoned off the top of the crossbar.
With the final kick of the game, Elliot Nevitt was sent clean through for a one-on-one and he shot straight at keeper to send Tranmere out of the EFL Trophy.
