Breck dominant in Padiham stalemate

Lower Breck could feel aggrieved they didn't take the three points as they were by far the more assertive team in last nights' North West Counties Premier Division match versus Padiham.

The game started really brightly with both sides having chances. For Breck a big mistake by Padiham skipper Daniel Morton was capitalised on by Sam Turner and his shot was scrambled away. Whilst for Padiham a menacing cross was headed away out to Luke McKenna whose volley produced a fine stop from Breck keeper and Captain Joshua Molloy.

The first ten minutes were pretty even with both sides having opportunities as both keepers displayed fine form.

On the half hour Breck had an amazing chance to take the lead after a break down the right hand side by Liam Morris was pulled back to Sam Turner whose curling shot into the corner was shrewdly saved by Matthew Hamnett. Another brilliant opportunity which the Breck should of capitalised on saw Hamnett scuff a clearance which fell to Leighton McGivern who had his shot saved by an outstretched keeper then Kieran Halligan tried to follow in but his shot was saved by Hamnett who recovered well from the poor clearance to produce a fine double save.

A quick freekick taken by Breck fell to Liam Morris who ran into box but this great opportunity saw him shoot just wide of the far post.

Just before the break Padihams Zack Dale  was forced off injured replaced by Jack Egan. On the stroke of half time Egan nearly made an instant impact after a foraging run offered Jamie Ramwell a chance to give the visitors the lead but his shot went just wide.

No change of personnel at the break as Breck had the first big chance of the second period when the dangerous Jamie Menagh picked out Leighton McGivern with a fine pass and his volley went just wide.

Padiham had a great opportunity on the hour mark after a scramble in the box fell to Marcus Perry who's shot sparked Josh Molloy into action with a first-class outstretched stop. Padiham made the first change of the second half as Tom Walker was replaced by Joel Melia whilst a double substitution for Breck saw Sean Miller and Sam Turner replaced by Ryan Beigan and Nathan Corness respectively.

Joel Melia was booked for Padiham after a late challenge left Liam Morris in pain and the only  caution for the Breck saw Leighton McGivern booked for kicking the ball away after an offside decision.

Both sides made their final changes as McGivern was replaced by Jamie McDonald for Breck while Joel Brownhill came on for Matthew Boland for the away side.

Lower Breck were putting relentless pressure on the visitors in the last ten minutes and were looking the superior side with Padiham on the back foot constantly. The final chance was for Breck as Ricky Ager saw a set-piece header cleared off the line and away.
