'REMY' return to winning ways as Barnoldswick relinquish

Litherland REMYCA re-instated their recent favourable run of form as they aim to keep a cushion above the bottom three, as the 'REMY' succumbed Barnoldswick Town 2-1 in the process as 'Barney's' winless streak stretches to five.

The hosts were quick to get going, as their opener almost arrived inside the opening minute. Will Dunne took down a ball threaded through the needle by Cal Hunter and he took on an audacious volley first time; he couldn't keep his strike down as it drifted over the bar.

Barnoldswick began to muster opportunities for themselves and calved one out just after the ten minute mark. Andrew Hill's shot across the 'keeper flashed past the post.

The games tempo was low throughout the game, with neither side able to enjoy any time on the ball but the 'REMY's' best opportunity after some neat play should have resulted in a goal. Nathan Corness took down and turned following a cross-field pass before racing in on goal. Corness turned and struck but Nathan Gidley was sparked into making a rare save, tipping wide splendidly.

Following a string of corners, Jamie Hay was able to snatch at a loose ball in the area. The 'REMY' four's effort cannoned off the unfortunate Bradley Ditch as it flew past a hapless Gidley, giving the hosts the lead.

'Barlick' raced through as a reaction to going a goal down in aid of an instant reply, and that's what they were close to finding. Ben Ashton’s long pass caused issues in the 'REMY' back-line, but the keeper scrambled back in time to thwart it before a valiant tackle by Jamie Hay furtherly denied the visitors.

REMYCA were handed a golden pathway en route to a second goal, after Will Dunne was hauled down in the area, leaving the man in the middle with no choice but to point to the spot. The creator of the spot-kick, Dunne, made no mistake as he doubled the hosts lead.

Where you would expect Barnoldswick to push for a pathway back into the game, 'REMY' looked the most likely to score and add to their advantage. George Nugent's low drive was well held by Gidley.

The whole of Litherland Sports Park wouldn't be slated for scratching their heads as to how in a passage of play, Barnoldswick never halved the deficit. Jack Reynolds was spotted off his line so Andy Hill took this upon himself to attempt a lob but Reynolds raced back in time to claw it out, Ben Ashton claimed the ball but somehow hit the inside of the post with the follow-up.

The 'REMY' thought their third was secured as Nugent slotted past Gidley, but the linesman's flag was swiftly up to cut short the premature celebrations.

To reduce the arrears, Ben Ashton pulled a late goal back as he bundled beyond Reynolds but this wasn't enough, as the 'REMY' held out for the three points.
