Clinical Taylor knocks Vics off their perch

Elliot Taylor’s strike midway through the second half earned Litherland REMYCA another three points in their road to recovery, as Northwich Victoria were next to the sword as another resilient REMY display saw them topple the title challengers.

In a snow-swept Litherland Sports Park, neither side were able to muster up any clear cut opportunities, but the REMY had the advantage as possession was largely on their half for the opening stages.

The first chance predictably fell to the hosts seeing how the game had went, with Bootle loanee Cal Hunter working well with Will Dunne, who ventured up from the centre of the park. Dunne shot had venom but he couldn’t divert it towards the post.

A Northwich Victoria side stapled to 4th-spot lacked urgency throughout the game as they struggled to keep up with REMY’s rhythm and this presented the home side with another chance on goal as a quick-fired shot by George Nugent warmed Ryan Gamer’s gloves.

Hamer was called into action once more to deny Hunter, who entered a foot race with a Vics defender once he was slipped through, but he couldn’t find space past Hamer who parried it out for a corner.

REMY continued to remain firmly on top, as a gaping header flew wide before Hamer’s hands were tickled after an authoritative drive from the edge of the penalty area was kept out.

Ryan Hamer was by far the Vics MOTM as his many stops kept them in the game for a large period of time, and straight into the second half, he was forced to deny a REMY effort again as he pushed it wide of the post.

The visitors finally laid siege on REMY’s goal as ‘keeper Jack Reynolds was drawn into action. Kuda Chingwaro effort was superbly denied but then spilled, but the reaction of the keeper to get back up and thwart the rebound left Vics in awe.

The goal many were expecting finally came, as the REMY made the breakthrough. Elliot Taylor broke behind the Vics backline and he entered a one-on-one with the outrushed Hamer, with Taylor managing to expertly lift over the visitors shot-stopper to hand the hosts a well deserved lead.

From then, neither side were able to conjure up any goal-mouth pressure but the visitors were able to haul many balls into the area in aim to bring themselves level, but a resolute REMY held onto a huge three points.
