Five star AFC sink hapless Kendal

A rampant AFC Liverpool marched on to record a healthy victory over a revitalised Kendal Town side, with a double from Tom Douglas coupled up with strikes from Oliver Sanderson-Rigby, Elliot Hughes and debutant Mark Madden done the damage for the ‘Non-League Reds’.

AFC Liverpool controlled the flow of the contest in the opening half an hour in an otherwise bleak start to the game, mirrored by the weather conditions.

When the game did open up, AFC began to tighten the screw and forced Daniel Roccia into action. Tom Douglas cut in from the right before arrowing a shot destined for the bottom corner before Roccia turned behind for a corner. The resulting corner kick saw Luke Stephens’ flick forward find Elliot Hughes who couldn’t divert a weak header beyond Roccia.

This was a sign of things to come, as the hosts made the breakthrough minutes before the break.

Tom Douglas picked the ball up before running in on goal, he had only Daniel Roccia to beat and despite a touch from the ‘Mintcakes’ shot-stopper, Douglas’ effort squirmed home.

Kendal couldn’t get going and AFC continued to look a potent threat going forward, with Jesse Dowling blazing over the bar which could have extended the hosts lead

AFC came out in blistering form, netting twice to take the score to 3-0 within the opening ten minutes of the second half.

The second was a cross from the right by Elliot Hughes, which nicked off a Kendal player on the way to lobbing a muffled Daniel Roccia.

Oliver Sanderson-Rigby netted the third, reacting from a cut-back before firing a low drive into the bottom corner despite Roccia’s best efforts to claw it out.

Kendal’s best attempt at a response was Robert Wilson’s free-kick drifting away from McGovern’s right post before the ‘Non-League Reds’ were back on top.

Hayden Ellis was called into action to make vital blocks to keep the score line in tacked. Kyle Schorah was first; having his effort saved by Roccia before Ben Cartwright saw his effort diverted by Ellis.

Kendal threw bodies on the line to keep the arrears down, with Kyle Schorah seeing efforts thwarted before the AFC 10 blazed wide minutes later.

Jack McGovern was sprung into rare action, being forced down low to splendidly tip away.

The pick of the goals from tonight was AFC’s fourth. Jesse Dowling’s cut back picked out the advancing Tom Douglas, who tried his luck from distance. His shot clipped the underside of the bar before nestling into the net.

An inspired substitution, as FC Bootle marksman Mark Madden, entered the fray for his debut. He almost made an instant impact as he raced through one-on-one with Daniel Roccia after winning a foot race with the defender however, Roccia made himself big to deny Madden, but not for long.

On a devestating counter attack, Jesse Dowling slipped the debutant in and he made no mistake to slot home the games sealer.
