Late penalty drama sees Storks stun Breck
After Lower Breck led by two on the brink of the final minute, a double from the penalty spot by Ben Hoskin denied the hosts a crucial win and nicked a point for the ‘Storks’.
Despite the game taking a while to liven up, Lower Breck sparked the contest into the life, with Connor McCarthy stinging Matt Hamnett’s gloves before Breck made the breakthrough. Jawad Jebrin’s flicked ball over the top picked out Connor Rankin, who dinked the ball over the on-rushed Hamnett before slotting into an empty.
Rankin became heavily involved in the game after his goal, having two chances to extend Lower Breck’s advantage, first nodding over the bar before a long-ranged shot flew wide before Padiham had their first effort in the contest.
Jack Iley raced through, facing Theo Roberts and the ‘Storks’’ 9 forced the ‘Breck keeper to tip round the post.
HT: Lower Breck 1-0 Padiham
Lower Breck started the second half electrifying, netting their second of the evening just five minutes into the new period. Connor Rankin reacted to Padiham defensive bamboozlement to nick in behind and slot home.
Padiham halved the deficit straight away, implying straight away the contrast of both halves. After a controversial free-kick was given against ‘Breck’, a firm delivery into the area was met by the head of David Sherlock who powered his nod into the back of the net.
Jamie Menagh flashed a free-kick marginally wide of the post before the visitors began a spell on top, almost turning the game on its head. Iley crashed a bullet shot shaking off the crossbar with half-chances from free-kicks and crosses swiftly went astray.
Many could be forgiven when Jawad Jebrin restored Lower Breck’s two goal cushion after rounding Hamnett and having the whole of Anfield Sports at his mercy to slot home, this wasn’t the case as a great Padiham fight-back seen the ‘Storks’ level in the final minute of play.
Both were spot-kick’s and both were slipped home by Ben Hoskins, with the first being from a foul on the byline - Theo Roberts almost got a strong hand to it.
The second was caused by Roberts being clumsy in his area, with a jubilant ‘Storks’ faithful flooded onto the field of play from the touch-line after being reprieved late lifelines from the spot.
FT: Lower Breck 3-3 Padiham
