Second-half delight sees FC Bootle through Young Mariners in Battle of the Groundsharers
Goals from Mark Madden, Dylan Westerside and Karl Bergvist saw FC Bootle beat Marine U21s 3-1 at the Marine Travel Arena, cancelling out a Harrison Tenton goal for the ‘Mariners’.
Despite the ‘Mariners’ having the better of the ball and half-chances going astray, it was FC Bootle with the first meaningful effort on goal. Phil Stafford, peeling at the back post, almost diverted a perfectly-timed cross into the area towards goal however, the shot nestled into the side-netting and another chance for hat-trick hero in Bootle’s previous encounter, Brad Shearwood, rasping effort drifted wide of the post.
From then, Marine gained control of proccedings with Harrison Tenton posing a real threat to an injured Paul Willis with him saving one effort and being beaten for one in which the ‘Mariners’ thought that give them the lead, coincidentally it was disallowed. A brilliant dribble move by Shamari Alsnafi left several FC Bootle players for dead but his shot unphased Paul Willis.
With the ‘Mariners’ on top, a silly incident between Mark Madden and Joel Connolly left the referee no choice but to sentence Connolly for an early shower.

As the second half kicked off, another disciplinary issues occurred for Marine, with another player being sin binned.
FC Bootle thrived with the man advantage and Mark Madden, off the back of four goals from Monday night, powered Bootle into the lead with a dominant header and another effort from the goalscorer was powered under the wall from a free-kick.
Harrison Tenton regained his goal-scoring antics, whipping a low drive across goal but wide before a delicate chip over Willis brought the ‘Mariners’ on terms.
Two quickfire goals for Bootle brought a two goals advantage and a 3-1 lead. Dylan Westerside, similar to the first, drifted into the area before a downwards header sneaked past Nicholas Scarth then Karl Bergvist’s delicate finish at the near post took the game away from the ‘Mariners’.
