Battling ‘REMY’ triumph in local clash with Lower Breck
A Johnny Foy strike after ten minutes separated the two sides as Litherland REMYCA pick up only their third league win of the campaign over Lower Breck, bringing an end to the visitors three-game winning run.
Litherland REMYCA, on the back of two consecutive defeats after amassing themselves a three-game winning run, looked to turn the tables and get back to winning ways and the way the game began seemed that they were up for the contest. Some brilliant footwork by James Hammill set himself up for an opening, in which he drove a compelling strike trickling just wide of the post before ‘REMY’ scored the goal they deserved after the opening ten minutes played. Theo Roberts fluffed his lines after a cross spilled through the hands of the Breck keeper. Jamie McDonald latched onto the loose ball, holding off several players before laying in Johnny Foy who slotted into an empty net.
Going behind gave Lower Breck a lift, calving out two openings in the space of a few minutes. Their instant response from going behind was almost converted as a foolhardy attempted diving header brushed off the top of Ryan Beigan’s head and bundled wide before Beigan was in on goal once again but the effort was bread and butter for Theo Roberts. The last Breck opportunity of the half was Jamie Menagh’s dipping free-kick but the strike from the set-piece always looked like going over.
The hosts looked for comfort in the game and only for Liam Loughlin’s scuffed half-volley and a sublime double save by Theo Roberts, ‘REMY’ would have been two goals to the good.
HT: Litherland REMYCA 1-0 Lower Breck
‘REMY’ resumed their solid spell with Jamie Hay standing out with some valiant defensive cover blocking out several Breck attacks before a header of his own flashed past the post of a grateful Theo Roberts.
Some golden chances were wasted by the ‘REMY’ which could have been rued by the hosts. Goalscorer Foy examined Theo Roberts but his strike was smothered by the Breck shot stopper, a delicious free-kick by Jamie McDonald brought an even more satisfying save by Roberts and the best chance of them all was a header by a ‘REMY’ man looped over everyone but a great defensive header on the line blocked the initial strike - with the follow up by George Donnelly squandered from guilt-edged range. From then, a period of half-chances came and went for the ‘REMY’ but nothing materialising.
Breck’s mission of levelling proceedings became a lot mote challenging after a high challenge on Kieran Halligan by former ‘REMY’ man Paul Speed saw the Breck down to ten before a further two incidents occurring by MJ Monaghan and Ricky Ager resulted in sin bins for the pair.
Despite the setback, it never stopped Lower Breck from going hammer and tong with the ‘REMY’ goal. A half-cleared corner came to Tom Williams who spotted the run of Jamie Menagh with a cross-field ball, Menagh’s ball picked out Ricky Ager before his sin bin, with the Breck’s 5 towering above everyone but diverted the header marginally of target and with the last kick of the game, a guilt-edged chance could have seen the Breck nick a share of the spoils but the chance went begging.
FT: Litherland REMYCA 1-0 Lower Breck
