I spoke with last nights hat-trick hero Tom Kiflin following Kendal Town’s 4-1 win over Burscough in the Macron Cup at the Bobby Langton Way.
I started off by asking Tom about the game tonight and he described his performance and Kendal Town’s performance as “perfect and believes his sides have a chance of going the distance. “Yeah perfect night really, it's a competition that I think we have a chance in winning.”
Kendal’s run stretches to no defeat since October and a winning run is occurring, and last night win came off the back of an 8-0 drubbing of Kirby Stephen in the Westmoreland Senior Cup and confidence is high. Tom says “We are team that’s just gone from strength to strength, with a lot of us friends outside of football also. The gaffer has had to start from scratch with building the team. A slow start was expected but we’re getting there now - it’s a great place to play football.
As a strikers instinct, scoring is a great priority. Tom was on hand to net three in Kendal’s win. His reply to the feeling of securing the match ball was “As a striker your selfish, we could of won that game tonight by any score line and if I wasn’t on the scoresheet I’d of still be annoyed. To get three is a great feeling.”
The next run of games for the ‘Mintcakes’ are tough, with Congleton next up before a run of two midweek games on the trot. To continue the run their on, Tom states “We will take every game as it comes. I personally don’t pay much attention to anyone else, along as we prepare best we can. The form were in we’re capable of beating anyone in this league.
