Bland derby clash ends goalless
In a breezy Wednesday night in Crosby, AFC Liverpool and Lower Breck played out a 0-0 draw at the Marine Travel Arena.
In an all-blooded derby affair with neither side able to get a foothold in the contest, rigid defences meant AFC and Breck were restricted to long-shots. The first effort on target fell to the hosts after 16 minutes and Tom Croughan, cutting in from the left, forced Theo Roberts down low to his left to avert the danger.
The Breck asserted their authority on the game and began to look a danger on goal within the last 10 minutes of the first half. Connor Rankin trickled wide of the post, plenty of firm crosses were well held by the North West Counties Premier Division Goalkeeper of the Month, Jack McGovern and from a corner, a goal was almost calved out. Jamie Menagh’s in-swinger was flicked goalwards by Tom McNamara however, Ben Cartwright was across in time to block out the sting in the header and clear the danger.

Oliver Sanderson-Rigby was forced off with an injury early in the second half and his replacement, Jesse Dowling, had a lively start to his cameo. An incisive midfield pass sent away Dowling, and the effort produced required blocking by the Lower Breck defence.
More rigid defensive work forced both sides into certain long shots and Finley Heath warmed Theo Roberts’ gloves with a low drive from range and so did Croughan for the hosts, with Roberts again alert to the danger. Heath drilled another long shot forward, with a lesser cleaner connection taking it further away from target.
Lower Breck’s remaining efforts from the game both were comfortably denied by Jack McGovern. Thomas McNamara tested McGovern and he was down low to deny before substitute Ryan Beigan rammed an effort into the grasp of McGovern as the derby ended goalless.
