Breck bruise unbeaten Wythenshawe emphatically
Lower Breck’s impressive form continued, defeating unbeaten and high-flying 2nd placed Wythenshawe Town 4-0 at Anfield Sports Centre. Goals from Connor Rankin x2, Thomas McNamara and Connor McCarthy moved the Breck upto 8th in the NWCFL.
Despite an authoritive Breck performance right from the first whistle, Wythenshawe almost calved out an early opener. Matthew Bryan steered a firm effort on target, but a fine save by on-form Breck keeper Theo Roberts saved the hosts from having the worst possible start.
Breck were soon in their stride and in the space of 11 minutes in the contest, found themselves two goals to the good. The first goal was a gift for Lower Breck, a weak header by Deane Smalley was pounced upon by Connor Rankin and the Breck 9 made no mistake to power his volley past Elliot Wynne.
It was two just after the ten minute mark as already goalscorer Rankin looping header flew over an onrushing Wynne. Rankin cut back to McNamara whose effort bounced onto the wheel and came out. Despite McCarthy finishing off, the man in the middle Alan Butler made the correct call to award McNamara the goal and double Lower Breck’s advantage.
The Breck continued an onslaught on Wynne’s abode and the ‘Wythy’ shot-stopper was kept on his toes throughout, keeping out McNamara in search of a second and two from Jamie Menagh - with one of Menagh’s efforts being a reaction following Conor Rankin’s strike crashing the wrong side of the woodwork.
The visitors started to gain an advantage in the game in the closing stages of the first-half and in particular, Greg Wilkinson would be forgiven for feeling aggrieved after multiple efforts of his never halved the deficit. After one flashed past the woodwork, another two forced Theo Roberts into smart saves with a round of applause from his teammates and crowd alike. Benito Lowe’s effort that was valiantly blocked by Harry Curtis brought the game to a fifteen minute halt.

Lowe opened the half with a fierce effort zipped over the bar but soon after, Lower Breck added a third. Flicks into the box caused the Wythenshawe defence a lot of confusion and Connor McCarthy flew quick to react to the loose ball, calmly slotting home past Wynne.
Wythenshawe almost scored a lifeline only for a header diverted into the corner to be courageously thwarted on the line before the Mancunians shot themselves in the foot by giving away a penalty after Jawad Jebrin went down in the area. Jamie Menagh stepped up and saw Wynne deny his effort, failing to extend the lead further.
Chances were hard to come by for a while until the score was rounded off and the hosts capping off a memorable victory. A free-kick cunningly found Rankin who stabbed past a despairing Wynne, netting a fourth for Breck.
Andreas Bianga caused Breck a threat with some half chances missed and would have been an inspired substitution if the scores were lower however, his side couldn’t get going and this was a great chance to leap-frog Mick McGraa’s Vauxhall Motors at the top of the North West Counties, but they couldn’t take it. Whereas the Breck continued their string of impressive performances and climbed the table once more.
