Magic Madden leaves his Mark as five star FC Bootle hammer Heswall

An emphatic four goals by Brad Shearwood and a strike from Mark Madeen secured a return to winning ways for table toppers FC Bootle, defeating low league Heswall 5-0 at the Marine Travel Arena.

Heswall began with threats to the FC Bootle target. Firstly, a scooped effort required defending by Dylan Westerside before the underside of the crossbar was there to further frustrate the hosts from the other side of the Mersey.

Mark Madden saw his effort parried out by the Heswall shot-stopper before the follow up was denied however, soon after, they were in front. Brad Shearwood broke clear of the back-line and raced through with just the keeper to beat. The emphatic number four made no mistake and slotted past a hapless keeper.

Madden continued his search for a strike and came close when two consecutive efforts, one over and one wide, drifted agonisingly wide of the target. They didn’t have to wait long as the hosts doubled their lead and so too did Brad Shearwood. A poor clearance fell to Shearwood, who placed a delightful lob vertically over the keeper and in, clipping the outside of the posts on its way in.

A new looked FC Bootle keeper, replacing the injured Paul Willis, was snapped right into action straight from kick off as a shot sent forward was parried away.

But the hosts regained their attacking prowess and Shearwood, on a hattrick, saw an effort squirm wide and Mark Madden saw his header unphase the keeper.

Soon it was three and a match ball was chalked up for Shearwood. Mark Madden dispossessed a Heswall defender in the penalty area and laid off to the onrushing FC Bootle man, who made no mistake to slot home into the corner.

After a nasty injury to Phil Stafford midway through the half, play resumed with Heswall diverting a header just wide of the target before the dangerous hosts added a fourth. Shearwood raced through on goal to set himself up for an opening, and a delightful chip which flew over the keeper nestled into the back of the net.

One final blow was to follow and this time, Brad Shearwood shared out the goals, turning provider for Mark Madden whose flicked effort was too powerful to stop.
