Late goal sees battle of the pace-setters go ‘Kenny’s’ way
In an all-blooded affair between the top two teams in the Liverpool Business Houses Premier Division, a late goal saw Kensington Fields edged out AFC Bull 3-2 at St. John Bosco and extended ‘Kenny’s’ lead over their counterparts to 8 points and hold a 6-point lead after Pineapple’s win over The Brow seen them move to second.
Both sides began proceedings with full velocity and going hammer and tong with eachother. Kensington Fields reacted the quicker, taking the lead inside the opening minute. Dale Jennings raced through after a inch-perfect through ball and slotted home.
The Bull were level within several minutes. An in-swinging free-kick was met by Joe Cawley, with his looping header being spilled by the keeper and tricked over the line.
‘Kenny’ laid seige on the ‘Bull’ defence in a mission to reclaim their lead. Carl Klair picked the pockets of the defence and rounded the outrushing keeper, but his effort could only find the side-netting. Jack Riley then came close with a compelling effort however, his deflected effort dashed wide of the far right then Clair was in on goal again. He bust a gut to get through, staring down the barrels of the goal but his effort was saved despite being brought down in the box.
Despite all of ‘Kenny’ Fields efforts, it was ‘Bull’ who made the breakthrough. Connor McCarthy had the ball in his path, beat a defender before slipping. Luckily, McCarthy was able to rush up in time to slot into the corner.
An instant response was needed and for Kensington Fields and an instant response is what they got. Dale Jennings free-kick flew over the wall and planted into the corner, leaving the keeper rooted to the spot.

The ‘Bull’ came flying out the blocks in the second-half and tested the ‘Kenny’ goal. Josh Sumner low drive from just inside the area was tipped round the post before a vicious free-kick was bread and butter for the keeper. However, the ‘Bull’s’ biggest threat seemed to be coming in the form of the second goalscorer, Connor McCarthy. Despite the forwards best efforts, the goalkeeper was doing his best to frustrate him.
McCarthy, firstly, stung the palms of the goalkeepers gloves with a fierce shot then almost turning provider with an inch-perfect cross picking out Joe Cawley, who couldn’t guide his header goalwards. McCarthy was on goal again with a stinging volley but he just couldn’t keep it under the bar.
‘Kenny’ Fields became a threat on goal again and some chances could have turned into goals. Jamie McDonald couldn’t keep one effort down but the closest came from Carl Klair. He found himself clean through on goal once more, but his shot trickling across the face flashed past the post.
McCarthy was again in on the action, hitting a sweet shot which warmed the ‘Kenny’ shot-stoppers gloves.
Despite the ‘Bull’s’ pressure, it was the league leaders who planted the final blow. Karl Clair tried to brush through a herd of defenders but was only partially cleared, with a ‘Kenny’ man picking it up and smashing into the top corner to send the Fields faithful into jubilation.
